Ryan Heemann, LCPC is a gay, white cisgender therapist whose passion is working with LGBTQ clients. Ryan previously worked for five years at Chase Brexton Healthcare, providing therapy to LGB, gender non-conforming and transgender clients in Baltimore, MD and the surrounding area. His previous work experience also includes working with addictions and co-occurring disorders, along with persistent mental health challenges in a residential setting. Ryan currently provides therapy for adults ages 18 and older.

Ryan believes that the therapeutic relationship is the most important element of effective therapy, and seeks to provide care that is genuine and relatable, while also providing the education and skills for clients to reach their goals. Ryan’s treatment approaches include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT). Ryan is also receiving training in EMDR Therapy at the EMDR International Association. Ryan’s professional experience with the transgender community includes four years of facilitating a support & processing group for transgender clients, and writing Gender Affirmation Surgery readiness letters for clients preparing for that step in their transition.

Ryan specializes in working with patients with depression, anxiety, trauma, and issues with executive functioning. This includes challenges around managing intense emotions, difficulty with conflict (avoidance and anger), and attention, concentration, or completing tasks. Ryan believes that many of our mental health challenges are our mind’s best efforts to protect us, and can be relieved and healed through therapy that promotes growth and reduces stigma.
