pronouns: they/them

Ben holds a BA in Philosophy of Mind from Wells College and a Masters in Social Work from Simmons University.

Ben is licensed in Maryland and can provide telehealth sessions for clients who are physically located in Maryland. Ben sees clients in person in our Ellicott City office.

Ben is a white, queer, non-binary person who centers clients as the experts on their experiences.  Their work is centered around trauma-informed care, narrative practice, and critical consciousness frameworks.  They also have experience and training in mindfulness, trauma-focused CBT, child and adolescent trauma, EMDR therapy, and work with groups and families.

Ben has previously worked as a mental health service provider in both private and community-based organizations in Los Angeles, focusing on issues of homelessness, substance misuse, and trauma related to combat, imprisonment, and childhood mistreatment.  During this time, they became acutely aware of the ways in which these experiences disproportionately impact marginalized communities including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals, and began to focus on the unique ways in which sociopolitical factors impact mental and behavioral health.

Ben enjoys working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families as they undertake the difficult work of changing un-useful patterns of behavior and improving their overall sense of belonging and well-being. Ben works with people experiencing challenges related to depression, anxiety, (C)PTSD, bipolar disorder, grief and loss, life transitions, gender and body issues, and family/relationship issues.  They also have experience working with neurodivergent people, and hope to continue their education in neurodivergent-led spaces.
