Fees & Insurance
We accept CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield.
In alignment with our commitment to offering accessible care, all of our therapists are in-network with Maryland’s largest and most commonly accepted health insurance provider.
We also believe in fee transparency.
For clients who do not have BCBS insurance, our fees are:
Initial intake sessions: $200 - $220* 50-minute sessions: $150 - $170*
90-minute sessions: $200 - $220*
Surgery assessments: $0
* Higher rates are for therapists with advanced, independent licensure: LCSW-C, LCPC, LCMFT. Lower rates are for therapists under supervision with graduate licensure: LMSW, LGPC, LMFT.
Relationship therapy and insurance
Family therapy (CPT code 90847) is covered by some insurance plans only in cases where:
the treatment is for the purpose of addressing the mental health diagnosis of one identified person in the couple/family/partnership; and,
the treatment is billed under that individual’s insurance plan.
Usually, clients seek relationship therapy for a complex constellation of mutual challenges that do not meet this narrow criteria. We do not provide mental health diagnoses in the context of relationship therapy. Thus, we are unable to bill insurance, provide superbills, or submit out of network claims on your behalf for family therapy unless it meets the above description.
As defined by insurance companies, couples/relationship therapy is generally not the same thing as family therapy. Clients seeking couples/relationship therapy with us should understand that those services will not be covered by insurance, even by CareFirst/Blue Cross Blue Shield plans and plans with out of network benefits.
Out-of-network reimbursement
As a courtesy service for our clients who have Aetna, Cigna, and United HealthCare (UHC)/UMR plans, we are happy to submit out-of-network benefits claims on your behalf. Your therapist’s full fee will still be due at the time of service, and any subsequent reimbursement from your insurance plan will be paid directly to you by your own insurance company.
For clients with all other types of insurance, we are unable to interact directly with your insurance company. (Not all insurance companies play well with others.) If you don’t have one of the above insurance providers, we can provide you with superbills so that you can submit your own claims for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits.
We only provide superbills and/or assist with out-of-network reimbursement for individual therapy, not relationship therapy.
Free (pro bono) services
We provide assessments for gender-affirming medical care at little or no cost, in keeping with our commitment to reducing barriers to healthcare for transgender, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming people. Please see our Surgical Readiness Assessment page for more information and to schedule an appointment.
We are members of the Intercultural Counseling Connection, which offers culturally and linguistically responsive pro bono therapy to asylum seekers and other forced migrants.
Our clients that are uninsured, or not submitting claims to their insurance plan,
are entitled to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the out-of-pocket cost of therapy with our practice. Learn more here.
