Support Groups

Find connection, resources, and community. 

Clinicians at the Maryland Center for Gender & Intimacy are proud to serve as contract facilitators for free community support groups offered by The Frederick Center, Frederick’s LGBTQ+ community advocacy and support nonprofit organization.


On behalf of The Frederick Center, we currently facilitate the following groups:

TRANSFAMILY (ADULTS 18+)


TransFamily is The Frederick Center’s free, biweekly support group for parents/caregivers/family members of transgender young people. TransFamily is a warm, welcoming, nonjudgmental space for people at all stages of their journeys to receive support, share resources, and connect with other adults in similar situations. No need to pre-register or sign up in advance. Join us anytime!  


The group meets on the first and third Saturdays of each month from 10-11:30 am. On the first Saturday, we meet in person at The Frederick Center. On the third Saturday, we meet virtually via Zoom.

LGBTQIA+ YOUTH GROUP (AGES 14-18)


The Frederick Center's Youth Group is a free peer community group for LGBTQ+ youth ages 14 to 18. Meetings are topic-driven, including education, support, friendship-building, skill-sharing, and more. This is a great place to make connections in a safe, affirming, and welcoming environment. Group meetings are co-facilitated by LGBTQ+-identified facilitators, including the Frederick Center’s Program Coordinator Glorie Cassutto and Justine Kilian, LMSW, a psychotherapist in our practice. Group meetings are held every Wednesday from 7:00 - 8:30 at The Frederick Center.  On the last Wednesday of each month, the meetings are held virtually via Zoom. YOUTH GROUP JR. (AGES 9-13)

The Frederick Center's Youth Group Jr. is a free peer community group for LGBTQ+ youth, ages 9 to 13, co-facilitated by LGBTQ+-identified facilitators, including The Frederick Center’s Program Coordinator and Justine Kilian, LMSW, a psychotherapist in our practice. Meetings are topic-driven, including education, support, friendship-building, skill-sharing, and more. This is a great place to make connections in a safe, affirming, and welcoming environment. Group meetings are weekly on Wednesdays from 5-6:30 pm at The Frederick Center. On the last Wednesday of each month, the meetings are held virtually via Zoom. TRANSTEENS (AGES 14-18)

TransTeens is the Frederick Center's free, biweekly support group for teens ages 14-18 who identify as transgender, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and/or who are questioning their gender identity. Facilitated by Merrick McKelvie, LMSW, TransTeens is a safe, nonjudgmental space for gender-diverse teens to find community, navigate challenges, share resources, and celebrate their identities. TransTeens meets twice a month on Tuesday from 6:30-8:00 pm. On the first Tuesday of the month, the group meets in person The Frederick Center. On the third Tuesday of the month, the group meets  via Zoom.
