Wade Cairns

Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern
pronouns: they/them

Wade holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Towson University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Hood College.

Wade works under the clinical supervision of Justine Kilian, LCSW-C. They provide sessions in person at the Frederick office and via telehealth for clients physically located in the state of Maryland.

Wade is a transmasculine genderqueer, white, neurodivergent therapist intern who approaches therapy as a collaborative space where curiosity, connection, and authenticity come first. They strive to create a warm, collaborative space where clients feel comfortable exploring their experiences, identities, and relationships.

Drawing from person-centered, emotion-focused, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches, Wade works alongside clients to build insight and develop self-compassion to create meaningful change. They are passionate about providing gender-affirming care and supporting LGBTQIA+ clients as they navigate identity development, life transitions, and reconnect with parts of themselves that may have been overlooked while surviving chronic stress or adversity.

Wade enjoys working with people from diverse backgrounds and, prior to seeing clients in a counseling setting, has experience interning in a school supporting neurodivergent children and adolescents one-on-one and in small groups. They believe everyone deserves the opportunity to better understand themselves and move through the world with greater confidence and connection.
